Volunteer With Us!

Every day people become your neighborhood heroes, whether they are students, nurses, or business professionals. Our volunteers are an integral part of the EMS system serving the city of Waynesboro, VA and surrounding areas. We are pre-hospital emergency care professionals subject to the same training standards and regulations as career EMTs.

Thank you for your interest in joining Waynesboro First Aid Crew. We accept membership applications both from experienced EMS personnel and from new volunteers just entering the field. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and enrolled or committed to enroll in EMT Certification Course. WFAC members come from various educational and employment backgrounds. Many of our members are pursuing or practicing in healthcare or public safety careers. Others are high-school, college, or graduate students pursuing other fields of study. Still others are practicing professionals in a wide variety of different disciplines. Despite our differences, WFAC members share several traits in common—our strong commitment to teamwork, community service, and Emergency Medical Services.

If it looks like this is the path you wish to pursue and you want to give back to your community, then all you need to do is pick up an application to complete, download and print, or apply online [preferred]. Please fill out the application and either mail it to the Crew or drop your application off in person at WFAC. You can find our address in the Contact Us section here on our website.

As a volunteer member of the Waynesboro First Aid Crew, at least 12 hours per month of commitment is required. Please inquire any questions regarding membership categories available that you may qualify for.

A membership committee representative will begin reviewing your application for completeness. Once your application is processed you will be contacted to schedule an interview. During the interview, questions will be asked that judge your character, morality, and how you are overall as a person. Please do not stress about medical questions, as you do not have to have prior experience to start volunteering at the Crew.

Following your interview, a criminal background check and drug screening test must be completed. The cost of these required screenings is covered by WFAC. Background checks are processed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the turnaround time to receive results of Background checks is approximately two to three weeks. Please do not get discouraged if you do not hear back from us for up to 30 days. After favorable results are received from both tests, your application will be presented to our Volunteer Management Committee for consideration into membership. Afterwards you will be contacted by a membership committee representative so you can be officially added to our volunteer roster, and you can begin taking the necessary steps to begin your EMS career.

Once you are a member, our membership committee and/or mentor will work with you to help you register for any other required training and certifications (i.e. EVOC) so you can start helping your community as soon as possible.

The Waynesboro First Aid Crew commits to training our volunteers to become competent Emergency Medical Technicians and will also sponsor any volunteers who wish to continue their education up through to the Paramedic level if they so desire. In addition to assistance for furthering member's education, we are committed to further promoting volunteerism within the community.
