Advanced EMT is the level of training between EMT and Paramedic. They can provide limited advanced life support (ALS) care including obtaining intravenous access, use of advanced airway devices, limited medication administration, and basic cardiac monitoring.
AEMTs generally have 200–500 hours of training in addition to at least 100 clinical hours in the field and the hospital.
In order to become an AEMT you must first become an EMT and take an AEMT course in addition. Also, you must certify with the NREMT with several psychomotor and written examinations.
In order to maintain an AEMT with the NREMT, 50 hours of continuing education must be completed every two years.
