Auxiliary
The Auxiliary to the Waynesboro First Aid Crew is a major fundraising arm of the Crew. In addition to fundraising, the Auxiliary also activates to provide rehab services such as food and drink on long rescue calls and fire calls with the Waynesboro Fire Department.
The Ladies Auxiliary of the Waynesboro First Aid Crew was started in February 1955 and joined the state association in 1959. There were six charter members but we only have the names of five. They are Mrs. H.A. Senger, Mrs. E.C. Reardon, Mrs. D. Lucas, Mrs. M.V. Worley, and Mrs. N.C. Hodge. In the beginning the auxilary met in the member's homes, and later we started meeting in the council room of the Early Dawn Dairy on Main Street. It was located where the Boys and Girls Club basketball court now stands. From there the auxiliary moved its meetings to the Waynesboro Fire Departement on Broad Street until the new crew building was built in 1965.
In the beginning our fundraisers consisted of bake sales, rummage sales, crazy hat parties, and helping man the food booths during the crew's annual carnivals. We also fed our crew members when they sold Christmas trees on their parking lot. We have come a long way, we now have weekly bingo on Saturday nights, cater banquets, and do an annual picture project. We have parties for our organization's children on Easter, Halloween, and Christmas. We go out to dinner monthly to celebrate our auxiliary members birthdays. We support our crew with monetary donations and needed equipment. Our auxiliary is paying for the addition that was put on the crew building.
We meet every third Tuesday of the month at the crew building at 7:00 p.m. We have 20 active members, 11 associate members and 3 honorary members. Yes, we have men!! We have one regular member and two honorary members. We still have a close relationship with Mary Senger, better known to us as Mom Senger.
